We recycle anime! How to sell your second-hand goodies with Animeet

Sometimes the series, or pop groups you were once a die-hard fan of just don't hit quite the same anymore. Or maybe, the new apartment you got turns out to have a lot less space for your plushies and figurines than you had first imagined. And that is okay! But when you find it is time to give up some of your otaku goodies, it might be hard to find the right channel for reaching your prospective buyers. Luckily, Animeet is here to help you!

On our secondhand shelf, you can recycle all of your pop-culture, lolita, kawaii, and japan related goods safely and easily. From mugs and hair accessories to manga and figurines, all items are welcome. But how does it work?

1. Reach out to the store you want to sell your goodies at.

Both Animeet Helsinki and Tampere have their own second-hand shelves. You can e-mail the store you wish to sell your stuff in with a brief description of the items you have. For example:

"Hi! I have three Rem figurines and a One Piece T-shirt I wish to sell through your secondhand service. Only two of the figurines still have their original boxes, but they are all in great condition."

Our sales assistants will answer you ASAP, and if your items sound like something our customers may be interested in, they will send you the contract for Animeet second-hand sellers, and ask you to fill out a more detailed list of the items, and your contact information.

2. Read the contract, make a list of all your items, and send it to the store.

The duration of your selling period is 15 days, starting from the day the store has added your items to their cash register system. In order to do this, we need a list that includes the names, quantities, condition descriptions, and prices for all of your items. If you're not sure about the price, you can ask for our estimate of a reasonable price point for a specific item. Once you have sent the list to the store's email, it is time to pack your items and get ready for bringing them to the store!

3. Bring your items to the store, and sign the contract with the sales assistant.

When you bring your items in, you will sign the contract with the sales assistant, and look over the products to make sure they match the list you sent. If you have any further questions about your selling period, the pricing of your items, etc. this is the time to bring them up.

Animeet does not charge a fixed rate from our second-hand sellers. Instead, we take a 30% cut from the item's selling price. This means that if you bring your items in, and after 15 days they have not been bought by anyone, you don't have to pay anything for the selling period, either! Fair, right?

4. Wait until the end of your sales period, then come pick up your remaining items, and/or your cut from the sales!

After you leave your items at the store, our staff will shelf it and take care of its condition and presentation throughout your selling period.

You may request payment for your sold items either in cash, or get it deposited directly onto your bank account. For bank transfers, the wait time is five days after the last day of your selling period. Cash payments can be collected on the same day you come in to get your remaining items.

If you do not wish to take back the items that were not sold, you may donate them to the store. After donating, the items belong to Animeet, and you are no longer entitled to a cut from its sales, if it gets bought at a later date.

And that is it! Seems easy, right? If you have any further questions feel free to reach out to our stores, and ask about the specifics of recycling your goodies. To end, here are two more important bits of advice to keep in mind for selling your items:

1. Animeet accepts only officially licensed, authentic fan products. This means selling either your own art work of copyrighted characters, or items from artists' alleys are not acceptable to sell through us. This is to ensure the quality, and legality of all the products in our stores.

2. Only sell items in such a condition that you yourself would be willing to buy them. We get it, rare collectibles are rare collectibles. But if your limited edition resin figurine is missing its head, left wing, and pinkies, is anyone really going to want it? If you are unsure about the pricing or condition of your items, you can always ask for help from our staff.

Help us promote sustainable shopping habits within the anime community: remember to check out our second-hand shelves from time to time, and bring your unwanted items to us! ❤
